~My Reason For Our Blog~
"You will have significant experiences. I hope that you will write them down and keep record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences." — Gordon B. Hinckley

~Valentine Cookies~

Any reason to make cookies is a good reason! We love to make sugar cookies! The best part is decorating them. It's funny, the girls love making the dough, rolling it out, cutting them out, watching them bake, decorating them with as much creativity as possible and that's it. They don't eat them, they give away as many as they can and the rest just sit. They get looked at, but very rarely get eaten. I guess the fun is in creating them.

~Sugar Cookies and Friends~

One of our favorite holiday traditions is eating sweets, but first we had to make them. We got the dough all rolled out, cut out and baked then called our friends to come help frost, decorated and eat them!! There is nothing better then hearing the girls work together, laughing and hanging out together with friends who are more like family. After they decorated and ate their fair share of cookies they watched a Christmas movie together.

~Oatmeal Molasses Cookies~

Raychel has gotten into the Dear America books. There are several different books that go through major events in American history. The young girls are about Raychel's age and go through major life changing events and become stronger through their trials and heartache. The back of the books have pictures, newspaper clippings, and historical notes along with recipes. On the website they also go through different games, clothes, hairstyles, crafts, and more recipes for the different eras. Right now she is reading The Diary of Piper Davis, The Fences Between Us, Seattle Washington, 1941. It is about 13 year old Piper Davis as she records in her diary her experiences beginning in December 1941 when her brother joins the Navy, the United States goes to war, she attempts to document her life through photography and her father-the pastor of a Japanese Baptist Church in Seattle-follows his congregants to an Idaho internment camp, taking her along with them. Raychel found this recipe and made it on two separate days to take for class parties. The cookies were a hit!!!

~Valentine's Day Fun~

What a really great day, not only because it is Valentine's Day but because my parents were still in town from Jolene's baptism. Both of the girls had the same lunch time so we were able to take them both out of school to go to lunch with my parents. Jolene and Pop Pop wanted chicken so off we went to KFC. It was fun visiting, eating and laughing for the time we had together. After we took them back to school we had some time before we went in to help with Jolene's Valentine's Day party. It was fun to have my parents there with us. They were able to meet Jolene's teacher and several of her friends. It was fun watching my dad tease the girls that sat by Jolene, and help with the cookies.
What a great memory that was made today.
It is sad to think they are leaving tomorrow. It was great having them at one of my kids school parties, having them here to see Raychel dance on pointe shoes, see Jolene at gymnastics, go to Aspen to see Ward's job and all he is up to for our family.

Snowy Spring Days

What do you do on a snowy Spring March....

Make a "baby" snowman...
Jolene was so proud of her little snow baby,
then the dog attacked it and ate it's
carrot nose!!!

After we dried the tears we made chocolate

chip cookies and warmed up with hot cocoa

and Raychel wanted to sew...she's addicted!!

they ended the day with a sister sleep over,
notice the cat and the baby bed next to Jolene.
All the girls are accounted for.

They dream of the adventures of the new day...
